Essential Nutrients & Minerals

Area of scientific enquiry · Not an operating programme

Nutritional necessity is specific. Requirements differ across substances, physiological circumstances and stages of life. Understanding adequacy also means examining the forms in which nutrients are actually delivered.

Questions we explore

We explore essential amino acids and proteins as dietary sources, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Key questions concern bioavailability, food sources, fortification, stability, interactions and delivery in real ingestible matrices.

Emerging possibilities

Structured nutrition and nutrient-delivery systems may give rise to useful applications, but claims about physiological outcomes require the right evidence in the right population and formulation.
