Portrait of Jamie Dick-Cleland
01

From systems to experience

Jamie Dick-Cleland began his career in finance at Credit Suisse Asset Management, working on systems and operational efficiency. He later taught languages and founded uSpeak, moving from syllabus design and teaching into an adaptive, game-based consumer learning application. Designing the learning sequence led him to examine how the order in which ideas are introduced affects understanding and participation.

02

Making complex ideas accessible

He later applied that insight to foreign-rights publishing. After a demanding David R. Hawkins title had struggled in Spanish, Jamie judged that the sequence of publication, rather than a complete absence of demand, could explain the outcome. He financed a joint-venture publishing arrangement that began with a more accessible work. For him, it reinforced the importance of finding the right point of entry to a proposition.

03

The scientific question

A subsequent writing enquiry changed his subject, but not his method. He began asking what people ingest, what is biologically necessary and what people choose for other reasons. Dietary fibre proved a particularly productive boundary case. Work involving gum arabic and other ingestible materials opened questions of source, composition, structure, process and physiological interaction; later liquid-product work added transformation, sensory quality and craft.

04

From enquiry to exceptional products

A subsequent enquiry into what humans ingest developed into work on dietary fibre, gum arabic, liquid products and sensory experience. Across these fields Jamie saw opportunities where material understanding, consumer need and product character could be developed together. NUMBRZ Studios is intended to give those opportunities world-class creative and commercial expression without forcing each brand into the same identity or technical source.

05

Holding the whole together

Jamie founded NUMBRZ to give the expanding enquiry an enduring institutional home. As CEO, he holds the independence of Science and the consumer-enterprise ambition of Studios together. A finding may inform several brands; a practical problem in one brand may become a new scientific question. The purpose is to accumulate understanding and capability that outlast any individual product or business.
